About
Our Fire Chief
The
City of Easley's Fire Chief, Butch Womack, was named President
of the SC State Firefighters' Association for 2007-2008, at
the annual convention in Myrtle Beach on July 21, 2007.
Chief
Womack was elected as Statistician for the Association in
2003. For the next 3 years he served as Third, Second and
First Vice President, culminating in the office of President
in 2007.
The
SC Firefighter's Association is comprised of 453 separate fire
departments with an individual membership of approximately
16,000 members. The Executive Committee, over which he will
chair, is comprised of 11 members who meet monthly to address
the many issues concerning the Firefighters Insurance
Services, the Retirement Plan and the operation of the SC
Firefighters Credit Union and several educational
opportunities for the firefighters. They also meet quarterly
for training.
Recently,
Chief Womack was instrumental in forming the response team for
"Line of Duty Death's." This committee was in the
completion stage when the Charleston Super Sofa Store fire
took 9 firefighter's lives. As head of this committee, Chief
Womack joined many others in providing information, food,
transportation and housing for families affected by this
tragedy.
The
Memorial Service the committee held for the firefighters and
their families will forever be etched in the hearts of us all.
As
President of the SC State Firefighter's Association, Chief
Womack will work to see that all firefighters receive the
training, education, and experience they need to perform their
job with expertise, confidence and safety. He will
aggressively pursue avenues that make a difference in the
survivability of a firefighter. As President of the SC State
Firefighter's Association, he has dedicated himself to serve
this year for the betterment of firefighters and the
Association.
Chief Womack began his
career with the City in 1985, worked his way through the ranks
and was named Chief in 1993.
