A: City Ordinances state
that all garbage and or waste material must be set out no
later than 7am on your collection day. You can set it out the
night before your pickup.
Q:Can
I set out my garbage in a trashcan?
A: No. Garbage must be
bagged and set behind the curb line in front of your
residence. Due to the high amount of back injuries, the city
does not empty trashcans.
Q:What
are the regulations on the size of brush for pick up?
A: No longer than 6 foot
and the diameter must be smaller than 8 inches. The property
owner must haul off anything over 8 inches in diameter.
Q:When
are leaves picked up?
A: Leaf collection starts
Oct. 1 and usually runs through April 31. Pick up is normally
weekly to start off but as the more volume of leaves fall,
pick up is less frequent, 3-4 weeks.
Please keep in mind that we do put additional trucks and personnel out during leaf season, however we have +/-8,500 households in the city limits and it does take time to go up and down each street. It may take us three or four weeks to get back to your house. Last year it took one truck all day just to clean up one street. Also be sure to separate leaves and grass from the brush and limbs. They are picked up by different trucks and taken to different locations.
Q:If
I pay someone to do my yard work, does the city pick up the
debris?
A: City ordinances
plainly state that anyone who gets paid to do any type of yard
work must haul off all debris. There is a fine if they get
caught setting the debris out for the city to pick up.
Q:How
can I dispose of hypodermic needles?
A: Take a piece of
aluminum
foil, wrap it around the needle then put the needle in a drink
can or milk jug and throw it in the trash.
Q:Where
can I get a recycling bin and is there a cost?
A: You may pick up a
recycling bin at the Public Works office located in the City
Hall Annex building. The first bin is free and there is a
nominal fee for each additional bin.
Q:Does
the city pick up appliances and furniture?
A: Yes but you need to
call 855-7916 before 4pm Tuesdays to be put on the pick up
list for a Wednesday pick up. All items must be set out before
7am on Wednesday.
